Armed robbery at Lichfield Road Tesco Express

UPDATE: West Midlands Police have launched an appeal regarding the black and bright orange scrambler bike used in the robbery. More here.

A Securicor van was today held up in an armed robbery at the Tesco Express on the corner of Linthouse Lane and Lichfield Road, Wednesfield.

The guard, who was emptying a stand alone cash machine in the store’s car park was approached shortly after 11:30am by two youths on scooters brandishing a shotgun. The youths demanded that the guard opened the cash machine and made off with a large amount of cash, believed to be in the region of £36,000.

Despite there being no injuries, the guard and shop staff were left shaken by the incident.
