The victim of a serious assault in the early hours of Sunday is today in a stable condition in hospital. Detectives continue to investigate the incident and yesterday arrested two men in connection with the inquiry.

An update from West Midlands Police on story earlier this week.

A 34-year-old Wednesfield man who was seriously assaulted in the early hours of Sunday is today (Thursday) in a stable condition in hospital. Detectives continue to investigate the assault and yesterday arrested two men in connection with the inquiry.

The two men, aged 20 and 21 from Wednesfield, were arrested on suspicion of wounding, they were both bailed last night pending further enquiries.

The victim was left lying unconscious in the street after being assaulted in Duke Street, near Pinfold Gardens at around 2am. A second man – aged 37 and also from the local area – was also found at the scene with minor injuries.

Police understand the pair had been dropped off at the Angel pub by a taxi; detectives are appealing for any taxi company who delivered a fare in the Duke Street area at around the time to contact police.

The two men left the pub at 12.45am and walked along the High Street to Lichfield Road and then into Duke Street. CCTV recovered from the vicinity shows a group of five people walking the same route. The group is made up of three men and two women and it is believed that some of the group attacked the victims.

Detective Inspector Bob Bradford, investigating the incident, said: “We have already received some information from the public but we would urge anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information to contact us as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact Bloxwich Force CID on 0345 113 5000 (ext: 7889 6052 or 6053).
