Cyclist badly injured in Neachells Lane incident

A cyclist has been airlifted to hospital following a road traffic collision in Wednesfield this afternoon.

A cyclist has suffered “serious multiple arm & leg fractures” as the result of a collision with a lorry at the Shell garage on Neachells Lane this afternoon at around 2:10pm.

Full statement from West Midlands Ambulance Service:

A cyclist has been airlifted to hospital following a road traffic collision in Wednesfield this afternoon.

The incident occurred at the Shell garage in Neachells Lane at around 2.10pm.

An ambulance, a paramedic officer in a rapid response vehicle, together with the Midlands Air Ambulance based at Cosford, attended the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Ambulance crews were called to an incident involving a cyclist and lorry.

“The cyclist, a man in his thirties, received serious multiple arm and leg fractures as a result of the collision.

“The patient received pain relief treatment at the scene from the doctor aboard the air ambulance. He was immobilised with the use of limb splints, neck collar and placed on a spinal board before being airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham for further assessment and treatment.”

Neachells Lane was closed to allow the air ambulance to land.

What’s amazing is, we have a hospital about 2miles from the accident, but he needs airlifting to Birmingham. There needs to be a trauma center at New Cross.
