Photos & Video: Vaisakhi 2012 in Wednesfield

Check out our photos and videos as Wednesfield’s Sikh community celebrates Vaisakhi.

Today we popped into the village to watch members of the local Sikh community who were walking from Willenhall to Wednesfield as part of the Vaisakhi celebration.

Over 2,000 people took part in the colourful event, which included bright clothing, food being given to bystanders, and floats filled with people playing traditional music – it was a sight to behold!

But don’t take our word for it – check out some of the photos we took here.

Along the way we bumped into local residents Paul Singh and Bhupinder Gakhal, who very kindly chatted to us on camera (without much warning!) about the festivities as we captured the procession arriving into the Guru Nanak Gurdwara Temple in Wednesfield.

Wednesfield Police Sergeant Simon Causer said on Twitter: “I have to say I had a great time and was made to feel part of the celebrations rather than an outsider Policing it! Vaisakhi Brilliant!”

A great day was had by all from the looks of it and we were really touched by the warm welcome everyone gave us!
