Kristian Thomas makes history at World Championships

Wednesfield’s Olympic medal winning gymnast Kristian Thomas has made history at the World Championships in Antwerp this weekend.

Wednesfield’s Olympic medal winning gymnast Kristian Thomas has made history at the World Championships in Antwerp this weekend.

Kristian, 24, has become the first Britain to win a medal in the vault at the World Gymnastics, taking Bronze just as he did at the London 2012 Olympics.

He finished with an average score of 15.233, behind South Korea’s Yang Hak-Seon (15.533) and American Steven Legendre (15.249).

The gymnast who has had a frustrating 2013, having missed much of the year due to fracturing his tibia said:

“It’s been a real rollercoaster of a year. Three weeks ago I was still battling to try to get into the team. To nail the first vault the way I did was so special.”

“To make the final was the first aim, so I’m over the moon. I’m really happy and proud.”

Well done to Kristian for putting Wednesfield on the sporting map yet again!
