 UNDER-13 THRILLER

The under-13s provided a cracking final complete with a nail-biting finish.  Haydn Rowley (Wednesfield) and James Elston (Bury) topped the score chart on 19 points, Rowley seeing his colours lowered by Elson in heat six and Elston losing out to Wil Tidball in heat 17.

And what a run-off it proved to be! Rowley held his gate but couldn’t shake off a determined Elston who launched a great last bend challenge. Under enormous pressure, Rowley managed to hang on, almost literally, to take the title.

Elston came close to missing the rostrum altogether. Chasing Will Tidball in his last outing, he clipped the Exeter rider’s back wheel and fell. Somehow, the quick thinking Bury youngster managed to scramble to his feet and remounted to retain second place before the chasing pack could overtake him.

The bronze medal went to Will Tidball who scored 17 points, one ahead of much fancied George Horsley.
