Spectacular poppy tribute at city bonfires

A spectacular poppy display in the night sky is set to top off Wolverhampton’s two firework displays as part of the city’s First World War commemorations.

This year in addition to the breath-taking main firework displays and bonfires, organisers are paying their respects on the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War.

As part of the grand finale to the fireworks show crowds will be reminded of the anniversary when a ‘Tommy’ takes to the stage in full infantry uniform while the Last Post is sounded.

Following a minute’s silence crowds will be wowed by a spectacular poppy firework display honouring all those who lost their lives in the Great War and other conflicts.

The tribute will be held at both the Hickman Park bonfire and fireworks display next Friday (31 October, 2014) and the West Park event on Saturday 1 November, 2014.

Families attending the bonfires are reminded that gates open at 6pm on both days with a display for children at 7pm, bonfire lighting at 7.30pm and the main firework display at 8.30pm. Tickets cost £4.50 for adults, £3 for children, with under twos going free. They are available on the door.

About the Author

I have nearly always lived in Wednesfield, I moved away briefly but missed the sense of community and so swiftly moved back! I honestly believe Wednesfield has more to offer than the residents often give it credit for and wanted to do something to redress the balance of negativity around where we live. Working for a media company using the internet and social media as a marketing tool I had the skills and passion to help set up WV11.co.uk so did!
