Major fire breaks out at garage near Bentley Bridge in Wednesfield

A major fire ripped through a car repair garage in Wednesfield on Sunday, 15th March.

Kenyons Garage on Wolverhampton Road (opposite New Cross Hostpital), which was last weekend the victim of a suspected arson attack was the latest Wednesfield business to go up in flames.

At the fire’s height, 7 appliances and 35 Fire Fighters from across the Black Country were in attendance.

West Midlands Fire Service released a statement saying that the incident was a “severe fire in a single storey garage unit and acetylene cylinders are believed to be involved, therefore, a 200 metre cordon has been established. The hydraulic platform is also now in use.”

Reports on Twitter indicated that the Nickelodeon pub and Cineworld were evacuated as a precaution.

“No link” to other recent fires

After a spate of recent arson attacks in the area, including those at Wednesfield High School, St Alban’s Primary School, the Chartercare offices and the previous week’s suspected attack on Kenyons, West Midlands Police Supt Keith Fraser has tweeted stating that at the current time there is nothing linking the offences:
