Wolverhampton needs YOUR vote to be Curry Capital of Britain 2011.

We have some amazing curry houses in the city centre and, as discussed previously on our facebook page, so do we right here in Wednesfield with Ranga Mati, Burburchi and Diva coming out as our readers favourites – So lets show our support for one of our local, and city-wide, favourite cuisines at the ballot box by voting Wolverhampton as the Curry Capital of Great Britain.

The restaurants representing Wolverhampton this year are Anise, Bilash, Cafe Rickshaw, and Massalla Club

Ballots close on 22^nd September 2011 and as an extra incentive fpr you to send that email you will also be entered to win a year’s supply of beer from Cobra or Patak sauces, chutneys and poppadoms in the national competition or 8 bottles of Banks’s UCB (Ultimate Curry Beer) in the local draw.

Wolverhampton Parks and Green Spaces are running Sensational Summer Snaps photography competition.

The competition is open to anyone with an eye for capturing a moment in time, amateur and professional photographers alike of any age, background and experience level are invited to enter .

This year the theme for the competition is that of ‘Sensational Summer Snaps’, representing Wolverhampton’s Great Outdoors and we have some beautiful parks and green spaces around Wednesfield aside from the obvious Wednesfield and Ashmore Parks there are also many other parks and open spaces.

Wednesfield & Fallings Park Local Neighbourhood Partnership are looking for budding artists to design a anti-knife poster.

The Winner will be given £100 in Vouchers Plus have their artwork professionally printed and displayed.

Rules and Conditions of Entry:

1. The competition is open to young people aged 11- 18years of age.
2.Posters must be A4 or A3, only hard copies will be accepted.
3. Full name, address and school must appear on the back of the poster
4. Posters that have been submitted for other competitions will not be accepted
5.The organisers will appoint a fair and impartial judging panel to judge and select the winner. The decision of the panel is final. No discussion will be entered into.

So come on, get drawing!!

Closing date is Friday 26th 2010 and winners will be informed by Friday 19th March 2010.

Recently the Wednesfield Area Action Network put together a very special 2010 calendar to celebrate Wednesfield’s history.

WAAN teamed up with staff from the Wolverhampton Archives who very kindly allowed the use of 24 historic photographs that depict Wednesfield’s past. WAAN’s members have picked photos featuring local landmarks, some of which still exist today in an effort to show how Wednesfield has changed over the years.

We have been lucky enough to get our hands on 12 of these glossy A4 calendars to give away to our readers. Read on to find out how to win a calendar…

It’s been just over a year since Wednesfield’s state-of-the-art skate park ‘Amos Plaza’ was opened and last weekend local skaters celebrated the park’s first anniversary with a event organised by local skate group Gnargore, dubbed “The Battle Of The Black Country”.

The event, which was publicised on the UK website of skate-wear giant Vans, saw prizes from brands such from A Third Foot, Death, Heroin, Landscape, Vans, Heathen and Unabomber being given out during ‘best trick’ jams, as well as a prize for ‘best slam’ of the day.
