A successful campaign by led The Black Country Chamber of Commerce means that from September onwards The Black Country will be highlighted on Ordnance Survey maps for the first time.

The campaign which aimed to raise the profile of the area nationally has resulted in the decision to show the region by name on the The OS Landranger Map 139 which has been retitled “Birmingham and Wolverhampton including the Black Country”.

Peter Mathews, president of the Black Country Chamber of Commerce, said: “For the Black Country, which is where the Industrial Revolution started, to be officially recognised by Ordance Survey, is a great plus for Black Country and West Midlands business.“

The new map will be unveiled at the Black Country Chamber of Commerce’s Exhibition and Awards on 11th September, with copies going on sale later in the month.
