We recently received an email from Councillor David Clifft about a new ‘job club’ that has been launched in Essington.

The club is held every Friday at Essington Community Centre on Hobnock Road, between 10am and 1pm – entry is free and open to anyone looking for work.

Juniper are holding a FREE careers event for all 15-18 year olds looking to learn a new skill!

The event is taking place on Friday 13^th January 2012 from 11.00am – 6.00pm at Wulfrun Hall in Wolverhampton.

On the day there will be over 20 Employers and Apprenticeship providers available to speak with, plus a special local celebrity guest speaker!  There will be a chance to learn a new skill such as Bricklaying, Nail Art, DJing, Hairdressing, Make up application, Dance workshop and many many more!

The announcement this morning that Jaguar Landrover has confirmed it will build a new manufacturing plant at Wolverhampton’s i54 business park was welcomed as “fantastic news” by Wolverhampton North East MP, Emma Reynolds.

Miss Reynolds said: “Jaguar Land Rover’s announcement this morning of their decision to build a £355 million engine plant at Wolverhampton’s i54 business park is fantastic news and will be a shot in the arm for our city. The new factory will bring 750 highly skilled jobs and a thousand more in the supply chain and the economy more widely.”

“It will be an advanced technology plant which manufactures engines for low emission vehicles.”

“This is a vote of confidence for Wolverhampton and the West Midlands more generally. It is particularly welcome news against the backdrop of last week’s awful unemployment figures and flat lining economic growth.”

“Wolverhampton and the West Midlands has lost thousands of jobs in manufacturing over the last thirty years, so it is extremely good news for Jaguar Land Rover to decide to manufacture new engines here.”

“I live in Pendeford, just metres away from the i54 business site and I know that many local residents have been concerned that the site lay vacant for many years but the creation of thousands of jobs has definitely been worth waiting for.”

The development, which could to take up to two years to be build is expected to manufacture the new C-X16 sports car model which was described by some as the “spiritual successor” to the iconic Jaguar E-Type.

DIY chain Focus is to close 120 of it’s stores nationwide after going into administration, putting 3,000 jobs at risk.

All stock is to being sold off as of today and remaining shops will be closed, including branches in Wednesfield and Wolverhampton.

Whilst this means bargains galore for consumers, spare a thought for Focus employees, some of whom are unhappy with how the chain is dealing with the closure.

As previously reported, Bentley Bridge Retail park is set to get a new Nandos restaurant next month.

The new Nandos store opens on 8th December and is yet another new addition to the retail park which is going from strength to strength.

Sainsbury’s in Wednesfield is set for a 21,600 sq ft extension which will include a new customer cafe and see the existing petrol station relocated to improve access and traffic flow. Plans are also afoot to include more space for cyclists, a revamped entrance lobby and new trees and landscaping. Up to 80 new jobs will be created as part of the plans.

Members of the supermarket’s project team will be in the store on Saturday between 10am and 2pm to discuss plans with customers.

Sainsbury’s development executive Christian Wakelin said today: “We hope members of the public will come and see how our plans can benefit local residents and shoppers.”

A new Pan Asian restaurant opens in Wednesfield at Bentley Bridge Retail Park on Monday 21st June.

Restaurant chain Cosmo which owns 10 branches across the UK opens it’s newest restaurant which will serve food from China, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, Korea, Singapore, Mongolia, India and Vietnam and has created 38 new jobs in the area.
