We recently received and email with an offer of a free security survey for WV11 businesses and residents, interested? See below for details:

My company; Wolverhampton locksmiths, a 24 hour emergency locksmith service, was born in Wednesfield three years ago and I have been providing locksmith services in the area ever since, building an enviable reputation amongst tradesmen in Wednesfield and Wolverhampton.

I would not have enjoyed such growth without the loyalty and work provided by the local community.

As a thankyou to the residents and business owners in the Wednesfield area I am now offering to survey your existing door and window lock security *FREE of charge*. I will check all locks and fittings on the doors and windows of your property and advise on additional upgrades and vulnerabilities that may exist.

It is important to keep up to date with current British Standards with regards to door and window locks as to adhere to the requirements of your home insurance policy.

Criminals are becoming ever wiser in exploiting weak aspects of home security and with such a poor economic climate it has never been so important to ensure you are protected against burglary and unauthorised entry to your home.

I pride myself on delivering a fast and friendly service and aim to be on site within fifteen minutes in the Wednesfield and Willenhall areas of Wolverhampton.

Where required I can supply and fit any additional locks that are recommended at a discounted price of 10% for WV11 Residents, however there is no obligation to use our service at all.

For more information or to arrange a home security survey, please call me on 07724-82-82-89 or visit Wolverhampton Locksmiths website.

The surface of the entire length of Griffiths Drive is to be replaced after falling into disrepair in recent months.

The surface of the entire length of Griffiths Drive in Ashmore Park is to be replaced after falling into disrepair in recent months.

The work, costing £105,000, has been called for by local residents and will be carried out in four phases over the weekends of March 26 and 27 and April 2 and 3, 2011, in order to minimise disruption to residents and motorists.

Griffiths Drive will remain open throughout the work and access to driveways will be maintained at all times. However, the 559 National Express bus service from Wolverhampton to Ashmore Park will be re-routed on March 27 and April 2 and 3, 2011, inclusive.

On those days it will be routed along Lichfield Road before turning right into Broad Lane South, right into Stubby Lane and then left on Lichfield Road back to Wolverhampton. There will be a limited service onto Ashmore Park on March 26, with buses being routed along Peacock Avenue, left onto Griffiths Drive, left onto Linthouse Lane then right along Lichfield Road back towards Wolverhampton.

Councillor Peter Bilson, Wolverhampton City Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Enterprise, said: “This is a vital piece of work and one that local residents have been asking us to complete for a long time, and therefore while there will be unavoidable disruption as the work is carried out, I am sure they will appreciate the improvements that are being made.”

Steve Woodward, Wolverhampton City Council’s Head of Street Scene Services, said: “This work has been scheduled to take place over the weekend to minimise disruption to local residents and motorists and I would ask them for patience while this essential work is carried out.”

Later this week residents in Wednesfield and Ashmore Park will receive their new 'food caddies' which are aimed at recycling waste food.

Later on this week residents in Wednesfield and Ashmore Park will receive their new ‘food caddies’ which are aimed at recycling waste food.

Each household will be given two caddies – a smaller one to keep in the kitchen and a larger one to keep outside.

In a typically negative move the Express & Star have decided to christen these caddies ‘slop buckets’, but here at WV11 we think recycling of any kind is a positive thing.

It is estimated that food waste accounts for between 20 and 25 per cent of household waste so the new scheme aims to reduce the city’s reliance on incineration which is more costly than recycling. Waste food will be turned into electricity that will be put back into the National Grid as well as non-chemical biofertilisers for use on local farms.

Here’s some information on what you’ll be receiving this week…

Residents will be given:

23 litre (40cm tall) green caddy – to store with your black 240 litre wheeled bin

5 litre (20cm tall) silver caddy – to store in your kitchen

Compostable bags – for use in your silver caddy

You will be able to recycle all food waste including:

Meat and fish – raw and cooked

Fruit and vegetables – raw and cooked

All dairy products such as eggs and cheese

Bread, cakes and pastries

Rice, pasta and beans

Uneaten food from your plates and dishes

Tea bags and coffee grounds

Bones

Your green outside caddy will be emptied every week on the same day and in the same vehicle as your black 240 litre wheeled bin.

So just like your black wheeled bin, make sure you put out your caddy by 7am on your collection day and it will be emptied.

As the food caddies are distributed around the city, residents will also be given two rolls of caddie liners each containing 26 liners (total 52) which should be sufficient for a year’s supply. However, after six months of operating the scheme, we will be reviewing the usage of the liners to see how quickly people are getting through them. It is planned to provide liners in subsequent years.

A family from Bradmore, Wolverhampton recently trialled the caddies, find out how they got on here.

Wednesfield North Councillor Rita Potter recently announced that a long battle to erect ‘security gates’ on a disused garage site in Whiston Avenue, Ashmore Park, Wednesfield has been successful.

On the 13th May 2010 Councillor Potter submitted a petition from 235 residents of the area who demanded that the City Council clean up and fit gates on the parking area behind houses on Whiston Avenue after residents witnessed many illegal acts taking place on this car parking area including the use of drugs.

Wolverhampton Homes’ Greater Wednesfield Estate Manager Angela Buttrick has written to Councillor Potter confirming that Wolverhampton Homes is now in a position to fit security gates on the front of the garage site.

Councillor Potter said “This has been a hard won victory for local residents who have been facing nuisance in the form of drug and sexual activity taking place at night, and in the early hours of the morning in this former Council car park.

I know that they will be delighted that after many meetings, and some arguments with officials and others, the residents will get some protection from miscreants who have caused so much upset.”

Whilst no date has been given, it is hoped that the gates will be installed sooner rather than later.

The former Danesmore Park Primary School on Russell Close, Ashmore Park is currently ablaze with Fire crews, Police and Ambulances in attendance. Smoke can be seen pouring from the blaze as far away as Ecclestone Road and Russell Close is completely inaccessible due to the number of emergency vehicles at the scene.

For up to the minute reports see our Facebook page where we will endeavour to keep you updated from the scene as we find out more!!!

UPDATE: Our full report is now online.

**On a personal note as an ex-pupil and as a parent whose son’s education was disrupted by the closure of this wonderful school I am devastated by this! We fought hard to keep the school open and when everything stacked against us and it closed anyway the council assured the parents and local residents that the school would not be left to run into disrepair so something like this could happen! – Steph.
