We recently came across this footage filmed at Wednesfield’s state-of-the-art skate park ‘Amos Plaza’.

We’re sure you’ll agree it’s great to see that local youngsters are enjoying themselves and making use of the facilities!

The Wednesfield Challenge Cup is a new competition which will take place at Wednesfield Park (St George V Playing Fields) at the end of August.

Exact dates are still to be confirmed but hopefully the tournament will be played over one or two weekends, depending on the amount of teams that enter.

Each player pays £5 to enter in a five-a-side team with 2 subs. The winning team will take home all of this money. For example: If 10 teams enter = 70 people = £300 for the winning team.

We are not sure how many teams we will get for this yet, but just wanted to try out for a bit of a laugh. If you want to join us please visit our Facebook page and click on “attending” and then leave a message with your team name and members and we will add it to the list.

Wednesfield Aces booked their place in the semi finals of the team championships on 4th July beating Ipswich 116-64.

Wednesfield Girls FC U14’s fantastic performance in the South Staffs Young Women’s League Cup Final resulted in a 4 – 1 victory against Wyrley Pumas on 22nd May, with the team ending the season League and Cup winners for the second year in a row.

The game was played on a red hot day on a bone hard pitch but both teams gave 100% effort and commitment, making it a great advert for womens football. Watch highlights of the match on YouTube here.

Wednesfield Aces clocked up their first win of the 2010 cycle speedway premier league with a commanding display against Norwich at Ashmore Park this weekend, however events were marred by an injury to Norwich’s Dan Chambers who was taken to hospital by ambulance.

Wednesfield High School pupil Danesh Nigah, aged 16, completed the six-mile race with friend Jaspal Singh, aged 15.

“We think it’s a really good cause, when you see the money going to people who are struggling in other countries,” said Danesh. “I’ve raised over £180 so far.

WOLVERHAMPTON police officers have been getting on-side with local youngsters through a community football tournament.

The event, which took place on Saturday 13 March, was organised by officers from the Ashmore Park neighbourhood police team, the Local Neighbourhood Partnership (LNP) and Wolverhampton City Council Youth Services.

Youngsters from Ashmore Park and Long Knowle youth clubs played games against Wolverhampton Police and West Midlands Fire Service. Each member of the team then received a trophy for taking part.

The aim of the tournament was to build relationships between young people and the police.

Sergeant Tracey Baker, from Ashmore Park neighbourhood police team, said: “This is the third year we have organised a match between young people and the police and we are very pleased to have the fire service involved this year too.

“This kind of event is really important because it helps us build positive relationships with the local community. It allows young people to see their neighbourhood officers in a different light – out of uniform and in a more relaxed setting.”

Cas Simpson, Area Youth Manager for Wolverhampton City Council said: “It’s all about building positive links between young people and the police. The young people all really enjoyed it.”
