St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School on Graiseley Lane, Wednesfield celebrates it’s 40th Anniversary this year.

All past pupils, staff, governors along with anyone involved with the school are invited to the celebrations which take place on Thursday, 9th September.

The celebrations begin with mass for whole school & former students at St Patrick’s Church and will continue back at the school from 3:30pm – 6pm with an opportunity for those who haven’t visited recently to see how the school has changed, catch up with others, and look at old photos. There will also be a buffet and tea and coffee available.

Under 18’s must be accompanied at school by an adult (sorry!)

“On Tuesday 15th June from 11am to 3pm we are holding an open day at the Community Centre on Griffiths Drive to showcase the work of the groups using the centre. We will also be marking  the official launch of our new Over 50’s Fitness Programme which will be launched by Dr Adrian Phillips, Director of Public Health for Wolverhampton at 11am.”

“The state of the art Gym equipment has been funded by Wolverhampton Primary Care Trust who are working with Wolverhampton City Council improving the health and well being of our communities.”

Wednesfield’s new £2.3 million community library is set to open to the public on Tuesday 1st June. The building on Well Lane promises to be an excellent new resource for the local community.

Designed to be fun and exciting for people of all ages to learn in, the building which is set to house thousands of books as well as becoming home to a number of community groups has three floors housing the library, offices and a learning centre.

The city council received £1,497,297 from the Big Lottery Fund’s Community Libraries programme towards the cost of the development.

A Northumberland school has threatened pupils with expulsion if parents continue to break parking rules around the school – perhaps this idea should be adopted in Wednesfield?

Wednesfield & Fallings Park Local Neighbourhood Partnership are looking for budding artists to design a anti-knife poster.

The Winner will be given £100 in Vouchers Plus have their artwork professionally printed and displayed.

Rules and Conditions of Entry:

1. The competition is open to young people aged 11- 18years of age.
2.Posters must be A4 or A3, only hard copies will be accepted.
3. Full name, address and school must appear on the back of the poster
4. Posters that have been submitted for other competitions will not be accepted
5.The organisers will appoint a fair and impartial judging panel to judge and select the winner. The decision of the panel is final. No discussion will be entered into.

Closing date is Friday 26th 2010 and winners will be informed by Friday 19th March 2010.

Karen Lees, City Librarian, said: “I was astounded by the extent of the damage when I first visited Ashmore Park Library but the people concerned have worked tirelessly to get the library open again for the local community to enjoy.

“The ceiling tiles haven’t been replaced yet, but the whole area has been tidied up and made safe, dry and warm for our staff and borrowers.

“Initially we will be operating a limited service – people will be able to borrow and return books as usual but the PCs which can be used by members of the public will not be immediately available.

“However, we are pleased to report that the afternoon of love poetry by local poets to celebrate St Valentine’s Day on Saturday February 13, will be going ahead as planned. All are welcome to this free event, which runs from 2pm–4pm.”

She added: “We apologise again for any inconvenience that the library’s temporary closure has caused.”

Ashmore Park Rangers JFC started out as the Victory Youth Club back in 2001. In 2002 the under 9’s then became Danesmore Casual Youth before finally forming Ashmore Park Rangers in 2003. In 2004 the club gained a Charter Standard and in 2006 were awarded Charter Standard club of the year and accredited Walsall Council Club Standard Award. In 2009 the club were awarded FA Development Club status, and have hosted APR Soccer 7’s Tournament which have proved to be a great success at Wolverhampton United FC.

APR have now grown into a substantial club with teams entered in at Under 7’s, 8’s, 9’s, 10’s, 11’s, 12’s, 13’s, 14’s, 15’s, 16’s and 17’s. After forming a partnership with with Wolverhampton United the club are now based at the Wolverhampton United Football grounds on Prestwood Road, Wolverhampton. The Rangers regulary train at the grounds and play home matches (in the Walsall and Bilston league) on a well maintained pitch and train week nights at several venues in the local area in the winter.

Danesmore Diamonds Football Club was formed in 1999 and is based on Ashmore Park, Wednesfield. The Club was originally founded in 1991 as Danesmore Casuals, the initial team being formed from pupils at the former Danesmore Park Primary School.

The team which plays in red, black and white is an F.A. Charter Standard Club and competes in the Walsall Junior Youth Charter Standard Football League. Their sponsor is ‘The Spread Eagle’, (Marston’s Inns & Taverns), Broad Lane South, Wednesfield, WV11 3SD and at present they have two age groups; Under 12’s and Under 14’s.

Home games are currently played at Northwood Park in Bushbury, although the club would love to be able to play at a school in the WV11 area! Coaching sessions are held on Wednesday nights for the Under 12’s squad & on Thursday nights for the Under 14’s and are held at Our Lady & St. Chad Sports College, Old Fallings Lane, Busbury; Under 12’s: 7-8pm & Under 14’s, 6-7pm, both sessions being under floodlights.

The Club, who have five licensed F.A.Coaches are always on the look-out for new players from WV11 schools and a ‘taster’ session, which is FREE, is open to all prospective new players.
