What is WAAN?
WAAN (Wednesfield Area Action Network) is a local area network (1 of 13 across the city of Wolverhampton supported by Wolverhampton Network Consortium) operating in the Wednesfield area of the city.
What does it do?
Local area networks like WAAN are made up of, and run by, local people. Alongside community groups and voluntary organisations (such as faith institutions, tenants residents associations, older people’s groups, and so on) they come together to help plan and decide the future of their area.
WAAN’s mission statement:
“To help empower local people to make a positive contribution to the lives of all sections of our community, through voluntary and community action, within the Wednesfield area of Wolverhampton”
WAAN’s aim is to:
- Act as a community platform, to echo a unified voice for voluntary and community groups of the area.
- Deliver WAAN projects to improve and enrich the quality of life for local people.
- To support the older and disadvantaged communities of the area, particularly to tackle loneliness and isolation
- To encourage and ethos of volunteering to help improve community spirit in the area
How do I join?
Simply download the WAAN membership form here, fill it in and then either email or post it to us, your friendly WAAN team will do the rest! Once it’s received your application will have to be approved by the WAAN committee, and then you will be invited to local WAAN meetings.
So if you have an idea of how to improve your area (e.g. starting a neighbourhood watch scheme, forming a new tenants and residents group, or simply tackling litter mess), or have any issues or concerns, then come and join us at WAAN and help get things done together. If it’s too large a problem, we also have a representative on the Wolverhampton Network Consortium board, who can pass on your views all the way up to a strategic level.
