Local eyesore facing demolition?

A local eye sore which is attracting vandalism and anti-social behaviour has taken a step closer to being demolished.
The set of Garages bordering Ashmore Park adjacent to the Wednesfield Aces Cycle Speedway have been in a poor state of repair for a number of years. This has led to damage, flytipping and grafitti, as well as the garages being usedSeveral of these long-term unused/derelict garages have been broken into and vandalised.Over the last few years the garages have been boarded up to little affect as they are regularly broken into and used to dump rubbish and industrial waste.Drug paraphernalia can also be found on the floor and fires have been lit inside. Why these garages have not either been demolished or sealed properly so that people cannot gain access (perhaps using the metal shutters used on empty/derelict houses) I do not know.As you will see from the attached photo, this is hardly a welcoming sight to those visiting the local park and cycle speed way track.

After being contacted by Wv11.co.uk, Wolverhampton Homes Communications Manager, Kate Hughes told us: “The Garages are set to be demolished soon and we are currently negotiating with the 2 remaining tenants, but until alternative locations are found we can’t demolish them”.

She went on to say: “However, our maintenance team are going out to make the site more secure soon and I will post a picture to Fix My Street after this has happened”.

As you can see from our photos above, the garages are hardly a welcoming sight to those visiting the park and cycle speedway track – we hope the issues is resolved ASAP.

Selling Porkies

As you are all probably aware the 4 year long legal wrangle between Dave Price, of David Price butchers of Ashmore Park, and Wolverhampton Homes over the sale of hot pork baps from his shop has been settled, with Wolverhampton Homes deciding to relent in their pursuit of a court hearing and dropping the case against Dave.

We spoke to Dave the day after he heard the news from his solicitors and he was relieved to be able to put the ordeal behind him:

“The support I’ve had from the people of Ashmore Park has been fantastic – I just want to be able to get on with things and earn a living now as it’s been hanging over me for so long. Hopefully now I, along with the other shopkeepers in the precinct can work together to to serve Ashmore Park and the wider community as intended”

Dave went on to tell us of his plans to thank the community that rallied behind him, of which he is a popular long serving member, by selling his now infamous pork baps for a limited period at the reduced price of only £1.

So what are you waiting for – get down to David Price Butchers, 70 Griffiths Drive, Ashmore Park (or for the locals – the bottom shops) to pick yourself up a porky treat!

Ashmore Park library reopens (updated)

Ashmore Park library has re-opened after work was undertaken to repair damage caused by flooding almost 3 weeks ago.

Karen Lees, City Librarian, said: “I was astounded by the extent of the damage when I first visited Ashmore Park Library but the people concerned have worked tirelessly to get the library open again for the local community to enjoy.

“The ceiling tiles haven’t been replaced yet, but the whole area has been tidied up and made safe, dry and warm for our staff and borrowers.

“Initially we will be operating a limited service – people will be able to borrow and return books as usual but the PCs which can be used by members of the public will not be immediately available.

“However, we are pleased to report that the afternoon of love poetry by local poets to celebrate St Valentine’s Day on Saturday February 13, will be going ahead as planned. All are welcome to this free event, which runs from 2pm–4pm.”

She added: “We apologise again for any inconvenience that the library’s temporary closure has caused.”
