Free swimming for Under 16’s extended

Under 16’s in Wolverhampton will be able to swim for free until at least March 2013.

Under 16’s in Wolverhampton will be able to continue to swim for free in local pools after the city council and Wolverhampton City Primary Care Trust agreed to extend the programme for another year.

More than 15,000 youngsters aged 16 and under have taken advantage of the free swimming offer at Wolverhampton Swimming and Fitness Centre in Bentley Bridge, as well as at Central Baths and Bert Williams Leisure Centre since the scheme was first launched in April 2009.

Wolverhampton City Council and the local primary care trust have met the costs of the programme in the city following the ending of Government funding in 2010 and have now agreed to extend it until at least March 2013.

To take advantage, youngsters need to apply for a free swimming card available at any of the city’s pools or via www.wolverhampton.gov.uk/freeswim or call 01902 556220. Completed forms must be returned in person, with proof of residency and the signature of a parent or guardian, to one of the pools.
