Police are investigating a bomb hoax which prompted the evacuation of businesses in Bentley Bridge Saturday 30 May 2015. Police were called at around 1.35pm following reports that a security threat had been made by phone to staff at the Nickelodeon pub.
Officers arrived at the scene to find a full evacuation of local businesses in progress.
Although the action was not initiated by police, officers worked quickly to establish the incident had been prompted by a malicious call and supported staff in returning the site to normality.
A serious offence which has negatively impacted on hundreds of people has been committed.
Work is now underway to find the person responsible. This includes working with phone companies to trace the caller. The caller is also believed to be behind a similar hoax call made to the New Pear Tree pub on Cannock Road, Scotlands made minutes later.
