Diamond 59 and 59/H bus services withdrawn

The Diamond Bus company have confirmed that they will cease to run the 59 and 59H bus services between Wolverhampton and Ashmore Park as of 20th October, 2012.

The Diamond Bus company have confirmed that they will cease to run the 59 and 59H bus services between Wolverhampton and Ashmore Park as of 20th October, 2012.

The company which began running the 59 route back in May 2011 and later added the 59H to service New Cross Hospital are ceasing to operate the service due to low passenger numbers.

Diamond were running the route purely on a commercial basis and did not receive any subsidy from transport authority Centro.

The additional service proved popular with local residents not only for introducing the 59H bus, but also for charging 10 pence less than their rivals and also giving change. The competition also prompted Network West Midlands to offer a £2.70 return ticket on their 59 service – it is not known if this will continue.

Transport authority Centro has told WV11.co.uk it is not aware of anyone interested in taking over the 59H route.

It is thought that bus operators are reluctant to send buses around the Hospital site as traffic congestion would affect their ability to keep services running to timetables.

Will you miss the 59H service? Do you think National Express WM should take over this service? Let us know in the comments…
