With the amazing journey Steven Sutton of Stephen’s Story is making, hitting the headlines and raising an incredible amount on money for Teenage Cancer Trust, WV11.co.uk has been contacted by somebody much closer to home looking for some support.
Ashmore Park resident and parent to 3 year old Freya cancer sufferer, Craig Powers has been in touch and is asking locals sponsor a charity walk up Snowden, to help raise funds for Birmingham Children’s Hospital’s Cancer Centre appeal.
Freya’s Story
Back in January 2014 , 3 year old Freya was rushed into Birmingham Children’s Hospital after tumours were found on her kidneys and a few days later she was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkinsons Lymphoma (T Cell) – a cancer of the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system is part of the body’s immune system and helps us fight infection.
Freya’s fight is just beginning as her treatment plan is set to span the next 2 and a half years – she will be nearly 6 years old by the time her treatment is done.
Having already spent 9 weeks on the ward – and with many more stays ahead of her, Freya’s family and friends wanted to raise money to help her through the chemotherapy, but Julie, her Mom, and I have asked them to put the money towards a new cancer unit instead.
About The Appeal
Birmingham Children’s Hospital recently launched their Cancer Centre Appeal where they hope to raise £4 million to transform their cancer unit, making it a nicer brighter, child friendly place for the children in their care.
The appeal is currently only £500,000 away from their target and you can help by sponsoring the charity walk up Snowden.
The fundraising walk takes place on 10th May, 2014 and a group will walk to the summit of Snowdon and back down again in an effort to raise the much needed funds for the hospital’s appeal – and we’d love for you to help us too.
How you can help
If you can help us raise the money for this much needed unit it would be much appreciated and donating couldn’t be easier you can do it all online through our online fundraising page here
Thank you!
So go on – what are you waiting for? Dig deep, share far and wide and donate for Freya now!
