Community Hubs consultation dates

Following Wolverhampton City Council’s controversial plans to merge Libraries, Community Centres and Youth Centres into ‘Community Hubs’ a number of public consultation events have been scheduled to allow residents to find out more about the plans.

Following Wolverhampton City Council’s controversial plans to merge Libraries, Community Centres and Youth Centres into ‘Community Hubs’ across the city over the next 5 years, a number of public consultation events have been scheduled to allow residents to find out more about the plans.

As ever, WV11.co.uk remains neutral on such issues, however we would like to encourage residents in Wednesfield to attend these meetings and find out the facts about proposals.

Unfortunately there have been a lot of unfounded rumours flying around and Express & Star headlines such as “Wolverhampton Libraries Facing Closure” do not help matters. Non of the Libraries, Community Centres or Youth Centres in Wednesfield are facing closure under the new proposals.

Wednesfield & Long Knowle will remain largely unaffected with new joined entrances being proposed.

In Ashmore Park the proposals are to relocate the Library and Community Centre to the current Youth Centre site. This would see extensive work to make the site fit for purpose as a Community Hub.

WV11.co.uk have taken part in meetings with the a group of local people working together under the banner of the ‘Ashmore Park Community Hubs Advisory Group’. This group recently met with Cllr Elias Mattu and council officers to discuss the proposed changes in Ashmore Park and to address resident’s questions and concerns. We will be writing a follow up article in a few days with the feedback we were given at this meeting.
