Two cars were found plunged in separate stretches of a the Essington and Wyrley canal around Wednesfield in the early hours of this morning (8 August).
Police and fire crew were alerted to two men shouting for help from an upturned Renault Clio in the canal just off Rookery Street, at 4.30am this morning.
It’s understood the car left the road and flipped over before landing in the water; both men were unhurt but taken to hospital as a precaution having spent some time in the water.
And an hour later a dog walker called 999 after seeing a Vauxhall Agila stricken in the same canal a mile away near Moathouse Bridge off Moathouse Lane East.
The car (pictured) was found at a 45-degree angle with its front end in the water and the rear propped on the canal towpath. No-one was at the scene; the car’s interior light was still on.
Police have traced the car to an address in New Invention where it’s believed to have been stolen overnight. The car has been recovered and will be examined for clues by forensics experts; an investigation into the car theft is underway.
