Plans progressing for Ashmore Park’s Community Hub

Plans for Ashmore Park’s new Community Hub are progressing at pace with local people having a direct input.

Plans for Ashmore Park’s new Community Hub are progressing at pace with local people having a direct input into the design of the building.

The new Community Hub, which will be based at the existing Ashmore Park Youth Centre on Griffiths Drive will see library, community centre & youth services brought together under one roof in order to reduce running costs and protect services. The image above is an Architect’s mock up of how the new Hub building could look once it’s completed.

Since Wolverhampton City Council’s Cabinet agreed plans to create a number of Community Hubs across the City in November 2012, a design group made up of residents, community, youth and library staff, as well as volunteers has met regularly with Council architects to draw up plans for the new Hub.

The design group has worked to identify the needs of service users and address any issues that have arisen, whilst ensuring community services and facilities remain on the estate.

The Plans

The plans, which have been drawn up by Wolverhampton City Council architects and adapted several times at the request of the design group will see a brand new extension built to house Library facilities, creating a link between the two existing Youth Centre buildings, whilst flexible, multi-purpose rooms will be available for the community to use.

Other plans include a new combined fitness gym, an IT suite and wifi throughout the building, as well as major refurbishment of the existing sports hall roof and changing rooms.

Have Your Say

With the plans yet to be finalised, the design group has organised a drop in session in order to give residents an opportunity to see the plans in further detail and have their say.

The drop in session will be held at Ashmore Park Youth Centre from 7pm – 8:30pm on Wednesday 13th February.

Local residents are encouraged to attend the drop in and speak to design group members about the plans – comments can also be left and these will be fed back into planning meetings.

If the plans are approved it is hoped that Ashmore Park’s new Community Hub will open in March 2014.
